In 1995 on a BBS ( a forum online) I wrote that the federal government was engaged in giving everyone except for the political class the reservation treatment formerly inflicted on indian tribes. Not many agreed or even responded civilly to the idea. As I said at the time it didn't actually set off a flame war, but I did get my ass flamed halfway off for saying that.
Today, that statement I made would be treated as a mild criticism of the government if not roundly ignored as being self evident.
